Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary CD-ROM V4.1
The version 4.0 Dragon's Lair 2 disc contains the wrong S03.mpg file on the disc. There are two solutions:
1) Click here to download a fix to the executable (small file -- recommended for dial-up connections) so that the game will never access the incorrect file (click on "run program" rather than "save file" and it will install itself automatically).
2) Click here to download the correct S03.mpg file (20Mb download) and a revised executable that accesses the new file (click on "run program" rather than "save file" and it will install itself automatically).
In both cases, please make sure you have run Dragon's Lair 2 at least once before installing the update and that it has created the C:\DL2 folder as the update needs to overwrite the DL2.exe file in that folder.
When you have finished the download, execute this program and it will unzip itself into the directory on your C: drive. In future, when you insert the Dragon's Lair 2 disc, it will automatically run the new version.
Once you have installed the update, you should verify that you are running the new program and not the old one from the CD. To do this, look in the "Help/About" menu for the version and verify that it is 4.1. Note: don't download version 4.3 to solve this problem.
Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary CD-ROM V4.3
If you have version 4.0 and the the three games play the deaths only, or if you have version 4.2 and you the game occasionally freezes on deaths, click here to download version 4.3 to fix the problems.
Before installing, please make sure you have run all three games at least once then overwrite C:\DL\DLair.exe, C:\SA\SAce.exe and C:\DL2\DL2.exe with the files in the ZIP file. Once the files are updated, simply insert the game discs and the new versions should run.
Once you have installed the update, you should verify that you are running the new program and not the old one from the CD. To do this, look in the "Help/About" menu for the version and verify that it is 4.3.
If you are experiencing the 3 quick deaths problem and this doesn't solve the problem, you can start the programs manually with a "/deaths" command line argument to force the game to play the deaths in a manner that should work on your computer. For example, start Dragon's Lair by selecting Start > Run then enter "c:\dl\dlair.exe /deaths". You can automate this in the future by creating a shortcut to C:\DL\DLair.exe and then modifying the properties (right click on the shortcut and select "Properties") to add the "/deaths". |
