We have two possible solutions for running Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II on the Dxr3 card that have been sent to us by owners of Dxr3 cards:
#1: The Creative Labs Dxr3 card is based on the RealMagic Hollywood card from Sigma Designs. The following walks you through installing the RealMagic drivers which in most cases will solve the problems in the Creative Labs drivers that cause Dragon's Lair to not work.
The installation of Hollywood+ drivers and application software using Creative Dxr3 in Win98 (reboot computer first):
1. In Control Panel - System - Device Manager, update the Creative Dxr3 drivers to Hollywood+ 2.2
( http://www.sigmadesigns.com/support/download_hollywood_plus_win9x.htm ).
Once downloaded, unzip all the files within this zip file into a directory. Go into Start>Settings>Control Panel>System then select the Device Manager tab. If there's a "+" beside "Sound, Video and Game Controllers" then click on the "+". You should see the Creative Labs driver listed. Click on the driver name to highlight it and then click on "Properties". Select the "Driver" tab and click on "Update Driver". Select "Have Disk" and point the file requester to the directory that you unzipped the contents of the file you downloaded above. "RealMagic" should show up. Select it and continue with the process until it is complete. Reboot your computer.
2. Install the Hollywood+ 2.2 application software (available from the same web site)
Once downloaded, create a directory and copy this file into the directory. Double-click on the file and it will extract many files (in MS DOS mode). Double-click on "Setup" and follow the regular installation instructions. Reboot your computer when done.
3. Use Zone Selector 4.0 ( http://www.digital-digest.com/dvd/downloads/region_hard.html#zone ) to launch STATION.EXE (located in the directory where you installed the Hollywood+ 1.7 application software.
4. Insert the Dragon's Lair DVD and voila!
Note:
If something goes wrong and you get e.g the following error message at some point:
'The application is only for Real magic Hollywood plus or Ventura plus. Please use realmagic Netstream plus....'
Then you may also need to manually delete the files ENC2DEV.VXD and CTENC2.VXD in WINDOWS\SYSTEM directory.
NT4.0 Users:
By using Zone Selector 4.0 and the Hollywood+ 2.2 software and drivers ( ftp://ftp.sigmadesigns.com/HollywoodPlus/hp1_7nt1.exe and ftp://ftp.sigmadesigns.com/HollywoodPlus/hp1_7nt2.exe ) it may be similarly able to play Dragon's Lair DVD but this is untested.

#2: We have a fix for Space Ace DVD-ROM and Dragon's Lair 1 and 2 DVD-ROM not working with the DXR3 (6 speed or 8-speed models). You will need your Windows 98 CD.
1. Click “Start.”
2. Click “Run …”
3. Type “sfc” (without the quotes) and press enter.
4. Click on “Extract one file from installation disk.”
5. (You will be restoring 3 files.) In the box, type “apix.vxd” (without the quotes) and then click Start.
6. On the next screen, where it says “Restore from:,” type “d:\win98” (where d:\ is the letter of your CD-ROM drive).
7. Make sure that the “Save file in” reads C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\IOSUBSYS. Click on OK.
8. If you want, you may create a backup in the default directory. Click on OK.
9. Repeat the above steps for the next 2 files listed below, making sure that the default “Save to…” directory matches the directory listed with the file:
Wnaspi32.dll = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
Winaspi.dll = C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM
10. Reboot your system.
11. You can test this by inserting any of the above listed DVDs. |
