Windows XP Compatibility
The Dragon's Lair Deluxe Pack is not compatible with Windows XP. Our DVD-ROM releases can be made to work under Windows XP using Windows 95 Compatibility Mode -- click here for more details. The Dragon's Lair Arcade Authentic version (CD-ROM) is XP compatible although there is a patch in our Downloads section that corrects a few issues. Note that the Arcade Authentic version is not the same as the Deluxe Pack. The Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Special Edition is XP compatible. |

Windows 2000 Compatibility
Apparently Microsoft has come up with a compatibility fix in Windows 2000 that allows our DVD-ROM games to run. Here are the details as sent to us by Mike Wolfe (thanks Mike!):
Hi. I wasn't sure if Digital Leisure was aware of this but the new Microsoft compatibility update (_not_ the service pack 2 version) allows the dragon's lair and space ace DVD-ROM versions to run on Windows 2000. By making a shortcut to the executable, right clicking the properties, and setting the mode to win98 or win95. http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/release.asp?ReleaseID=29763
You might want to also check out the Windows XP compatibility above if you are experiencing problems as the solution is quite similar.
We've had positive and negative reports back regarding the fix. Remember that you will still need a compatible DVD driver such as SoftDVD Max, or WinDVD 3.0 (with our DirectShow patch). The patch will not work with the Deluxe Pack but we have new CD-ROM versions of Dragon's Lair, Space Ace and Dragon's Lair II available as the Dragon's Lair 20th Anniversary Special Edition which are Windows 2000 compatible.
*Note* Another compatibility fix:
I was having problems installing the Compatibility pack on Windows 2000 because I was running service pack 3... Sometimes "Compatibility Mode" is defaulted to off, and if you try to install the "compatibility update" once you have installed service pack 3, it will tell you that you aren't allowed to install it since it's already present in service pack 3...
However it has been available as an option if you have installed Windows 2000 Service Pack 2 or higher. It was not enabled by default on Service Pack 2. Systems that are subsequently upgraded to Service Pack 3 may well already have this enabled, but some systems that are clean installed to Service Pack 3 may well to have a dll file registered to make it work. If you are running Windows 2000 with service pack 2 or higher and this option isn't working, you can enable it as follows: Click Start. Click Run. Type CMD. In the command prompt window that opens, type regsvr32 %systemroot%\AppPatch\slayerui.dll. You will receive a message that the DLL has been successfully registered. The compatibility mode option is now available for use. |

Missing Instructions for Time Traveler
Oops, we goofed! By default the program loads the wrong txt file for the instructions. The correct file is in the HTT folder on the CD and is called TTHelp.txt. To view these instructions, double-click on "My Computer" and single right-button-click on the CD icon and select "Open". Double-click on HTT then find TTHelp.txt and double-click on this file to view the instructions (not the file of the same name that is on the root directory of the disc). |

Audio won't play with Time Traveler
Time Traveler requires an ADPCM sound decoder driver in your computer and it may be that yours is missing. You can check the Microsoft web site here for details on how to reinstall it. |

|
Movies will not play or missing DLL files
If you try to play the game and the movies will not play for you or your get errors in some of the system files like MSRLE32.DLL or MSVFW32.DLL, you may have problems with some of the drivers in your computer. You can test movie playback by using the Media Player (Start>Programs>Accessories>Multimedia) and playing one of the AVI movies on the CD. You should download the latest version of DirectX from the Microsoft web site ( click here ). You can also try downloading the latest Indeo driver from Intel ( click here ). If this doesn't correct the problem, you may have to reinstall Windows 95 to correct the problem. |
 |
Game is playing by itself with no keyboard input
If the game is playing by itself with no keyboard input, you may be running on a machine that is too slow (for example, a 486) in which case you will notice a very low frame rate and out-of-sync audio, or you may be running on Windows NT (which is not supported). If you are running on a slower machine such as a Pentium 75, you will probably not have enough processor power to play full screen and you may experience a very low frame rate and the game playing by itself. In this case, try playing the program in the default (small) window. We hope have a new version shortly that will play full screen without a window that may allow slower Pentiums to run full screen and it will also address the Windows NT keyboard issue. Please download the latest version so that we can notify you when the new version is available. |

Keyboard isn't responding
If the keyboard doesn't seem to be responding (always dying on the first move, not hearing any beeps when a directional key or space bar is pressed), you may have the NUMLOCK set the wrong way so try toggling it and trying again. If this doesn't work, try using the separate cursor keys. If you can get by the initial moves but are not getting any beeps, your internal PC speaker may not be working (the beep sounds come from the internal speaker, not your sound card). Also, we have heard from some owners that selecting a four-button joystick in the Control Panel will cause the keyboard to not function -- try setting it to something else. |
 |
I hear a buzz from my computer/Intro doesn't start
Four or more button joysticks and game pads seem to interfere with the keyboard reading causing the games to continually think that keys are being pressed. This will cause the move beep to always play so you will hear a constant buzz sound coming from your computer (the move beeps are played back through the internal PC speaker). You can try adjusting some of the parameters in the Joysticks Control Panel but in many cases the only solution is to uninstall your joystick. If and when we have a new version that solves this, we will send an email to all registered owners so make sure you register your game (click on "Register" in the left menu column). If you are using a Gravis GamePadPro, you must set the setting on the reverse side to GRIP and install the Gravis Utilities and calibrate it for Gravis Grip. You will proceed to get a test choice and then a calibration screen. It will work just like a joystick!
If this doesn't help, try going into the System-Hardware CD config and disable the read ahead feature. To do this: Go into MY COMPUTER>CONTROL PANEL>SYSTEM>PERFORMANCE TAB>FILE SYSTEM>CD ROM and you will see : "Optimize access pattern for:". At this point click the arrow and scroll through options and you will see "No - Read ahead". Select it and then click "Apply" And then exit out. You will need to restart your system after that change is made. |

Game crashes when you press SpaceBar
If the game crashes when you press the Space Bar, you are likely playing in full screen mode without a window around the video. Currently you must have a window around the video to avoid this problem so you should check in Start>Settings>Control Panels>Multimedia and make sure the "Video" tab is set to "Window" rather than "Full Screen". If you are playing Dragon's Lair II and have a version earlier than 2.01, you should download the latest version . As mentioned above, we hope to have a new version that will allow full screen without a window soon. |
 |
Game doesn't auto-run when you insert the CD
If the program doesn't automatically run when you put the CD in your computer then the auto-run feature in your computer is probably not working. You can still run the programs by double-clicking on "My Computer", then on your CD-ROM drive and then on DL2. Alternately, you can insert the CD then select Start>Run and enter D:\DL2.EXE (or sometimes D:\DL2AVI.EXE) assuming D: is your CD-ROM drive letter. |
 |
Movie Not Found error
If you are running Dragon's Lair II and receive a "Movie not found" error, download the latest version to correct the problem (the most common movies not found are SEQ01D10.AVI and SEQMISS.AVI). |
 |
Save/Load: How does it work?
When using the Save/Load features, please be aware that the games will only save your location once you complete a level and will not save your position at a specific point within a level. |
 |
Can't Open AVI error
If you get a "Can't Open AVI" error it means that the drivers that tell the system they can play AVI files can't actually play AVI files when the games are requesting that they do so. It seems to happen when multiple drivers have been installed which sometimes happens without you knowing it when certain applications are installed. You can try downloading the latest Indeo driver from Intel ( click here ). The other solution that has worked is to reinstall Windows 95. When doing this, run the "Setup" program on the Windows 95 CD when you are already running and in Windows 95 and your existing programs should remain fully installed after you reinstall Windows. |
 |
Insert CD#2 (Space Ace)
There is no CD#2 for Space Ace but what that message means is that the program is getting an error when it is trying to access a scene on the CD. You can try to copy the entire "CD1" directory on to the root of your hard drive if you have the space. If you get an error while copying, it is either the CD or your CD-ROM drive in which case you can try doing the same on another computer to determine which it is. If it copies, try running the program and it will access the data from the hard drive instead of the CD. If the program then works for you then there is something wrong with your CD-ROM drive. |
